Koru

I never really knew what I wanted to do, or fully who I was, until I became a mother. Now that I have, my life has changed increasingly. When we had our baby girl we decided to name her Fern. A long treasured name of mine dating back to Charlottes Webb obsessions. More than that, I wanted her name to be something relevant to me. A name that meant something. If you look up the name Fern in any baby book, it's going to tell you that the meaning of Fern is "a green leafy plant" or something of the like. well duh. But in Maori culture (native New Zealand, which is where I lived for 18 months and grew the most beautiful bonds) it means so much more. Koru in maori means loop. Koru refers to the spiral shape of a new unfurling silver fern frond. It symbolizes new life, growth, strength, and peace. How completely appropriate. The koru symbol is found on jewelry made of jade and bone throughout new zealand. I was gifted one, by a friend, when I lived there.

Since becoming a mother so many things have come to light for me. I've started knowing myself better, and discovering my calling so much more clearly. Part of that calling and passion I never knew I had, or if I did it was misdirected, has submerged through a new business I've recently launched. Just a small little thing on etsy. May I introduce to you, my shop for babies and children.

I'll be blogging as well from time to time. Just to keep things neat and tidy, I've decided to leave Sweet Darlin' and go with the theme. Please join me on my new blog. I'd love to hear from you all. It's been such a very long time.

A week of Pinning

I decided, since Pinterest is such a thing now, to start doing a post per week about my favorite pins. Of course, you can follow my boards here, but I just want to highlight some of my favorites, and most repinned pins since I've posted them, in case you missed some. Here are the top 10 from this past week.

My darling in December

We had such a wonderful December. I can't believe this little miss is growing at the rate she is. Everyone said it would happen fast. Even still, there's just no way to prepare yourself for this.
She's getting into everything these days. That baby in the mirror is her best friend. Hilarious, I'm tellin' ya. Her favorite part of Christmas, naturally, were the boxes and paper that covered them. And TEETHING. ugh. Let's not even talk about that.

This little lamb has survived tumbles and bumps a plenty this past month. I'm so excited about them though, because I know it prepares her for her next big adventures.. walking. running.. Oh Lord. I just wish they were preparing me as well.

I know I've bragged on my talented friends before, but seriously. I have some TALENTED ones. My lovely friend Lisa is selling these gorgeous mocs that she handmade. everything. cut out the leather, stitched and all. I have a pair in grey, since I've had those she's started making the beautiful navajo print. Looks like i'm going to need another pair! If you're interested in a pair leave your email address and I'll pass it on to Lisa! She doesn't have an etsy yet- but I betcha it's coming soon. ;)

$65 with Navajo print | $60 without. What a brilliant thing to spend your Christmas money on.

Peas suck

(4 months)

At 4 months, we started Fern off with rice cereal and oatmeal.. She looooved it. She ate it every day for two months, and the Suddenly at 6 months, she did everything she could to make it stop. She would literally GAG herself when we fed it to her! WHAT! My only guess is that it's a texture thing. I don't know.
Luckily it was just in time to move on to baby foods. So far she loves carrots, sweet potatoes, and all kinds of fruit. .... Peas however... we have an issue with peas. A real life issue.

(6 months)

I don't know what's better, that face, or those rolls.  yowza this girl is a cutie.

Does anyone have any experience with BLW?? (Baby led weening) I've only heard it in brief conversation, but if anybody has hands on experience, I'd like to know what you think.

Learning to count with Mr. Darcy and the like...

I've been collecting these sweet BabyLit color and counting primers by Jennifer Adams for about a month now, and I think it's safe to say I'm obsessed. I hope Fern loves them as much as I do. What better way to learn your colors and how to count than with some of the literary classics? (not to mention the art throughout is adorable.) I hope Fern realizes what a cool mom I am. ;)
